ABOUT ME

Let me tell you
about story.

When I was 16 I started to lose my way with food. I did not have any self awareness back then so I’m not really sure of exactly how it happened, but I do remember not bringing lunch from home and buying cookies at school instead. I was stuck in a body that I hated. I went to the gym daily, but was unable to lose a pound. When it came time for college things only got worse. The sorority house eating and late nights took their toll. I weighed 150lbs and even though I went to the gym 6 days a week, the scale wouldn’t budge.
To say I was frustrated is an understatement. I was willing to do anything to lose the weight, but did not have the right tools to do so. At this time I was in the process of majoring in Nutrition, but chemistry and biology classes were not enough to help me. Negative thoughts about my body consumed my mind. I was always thinking about the next meal or about why I had to be the only one suffering like this. I loved shopping, but would cry in the dressing room when the clothes did not fit right. I ate salads during the day, but when I was at a party in front of sweets I could not control myself, it was like a monster took over and I lost control. Then I would feel guilty and promise myself I would never do it again.
Of course, the next time I did it again. In my early 20s I had balanced out my foods and was happy with my weight, but my stomach was a mess. I suffered from acid reflux and nothing ever felt like it digested right. I took Prevacid every morning to battle the symptoms, but still did not feel great. Doctors did not know what to do with me because all of my labs were “normal”. It wasn’t until I started to question if the foods I was eating were the right ones for me, that I started to improve. I realized that chicken and beef take forever for my system to digest. The carbohydrates that I thought were my enemy were exactly what I was missing in order to normalize my digestive system. I needed small frequent meals instead of 3 larger meals a day. And so the story goes. With the powers of rewiring my thoughts, listening to my body and working with it to find what works for me, I have lived more than 15 years in a body I am truly happy with inside and out.
